OHIO SNOW-REMOVAL FIRM CUTS SALT USAGE 28.3%When a large snow-removal company in Ohio started using abrand new type of box plow, the result was surprising: a 1.5hour reduction in plowing time per event and a 28.3% savingon salt use.
In the winter of 2012-13, the largest snow-removal company in Ohio started using the brand new Optimus model snow pusherfrom Avalanche. Because the blades adjust to dips in the asphalt, the need for follow up work to clear missed snow is greatly reduced, if not eliminated altogether. On one 42 acre site, they calculated that this flexibility made them 1.5 hours faster per snow event.
In addition, on this particular site, a truck scale at the entrance allows them to weigh the salt truck going in and going out. This gives a very accurate read on salt usage. Comparing the data for the past year using the Optimus against previous years using a regular snow pusher they found a 28.3% saving in the amount of salt used. This saving results because the spring-loaded steel blades clean down to the asphalt on the first pass. The Optimus cutting edge contours to uneven plowing surfaces, allowing for ‘one-pass’ cleaning.
